My name is Olivia and I live 48 km east of Gothenburg in Bollebygd. My mother and I have a mutual breeding since -97. We have a small breeding of Labrador retrievers + en enormous interest in animals. We also have two horses called Dode and Frieser, and two kittens named Bodil and Doris. The Picture at the bottom is of me (Olivia) and Dode.
Sångfågelns kennel was founded in 1997 when our first litter was born. Emma (the kennels mother bitch) gave birth to 11 puppies and Kiri was the dog who got to stay in the family. All our puppies have names after operas, singers, characters and composes, in other words all things related to opera. That we came to choose Sångfågelns kennel (Song-bird) as our name, felt natural: all doges name relates to Song- , and -bird relates to the Labradors excellent capacity to retrieve. That the name niche became opera isn’t strange as my mother is an opera singer at Gothenburg Opera, and opera has always hade a big place in our heart. In our breeding we put great value to health and the Labradors fabulous quality to retrieve and track. We, as many other kennels, wants to go a middle way to get a good looking, not to heavy dog, with free hips and elbows and with all the qualities and skills in the hunting. Sadly this is a hard thin to combine but we try our best. When buying a puppy from us you get free support and we appreciate meeting you and the puppy regularly. When the puppy is 1 – 1½ years old it’s time for X-ray of hips and elbows. We want all our puppies to be X-rayed, exceptions are made only if the puppy has been injured so bad that the Swedish Kennel Club can’t read the X-ray plate or if an X-ray for some reason would be bad for the dog. If all puppies are X-rayed we get a broad knowledge of the health and heritage in our bitches and puppies. It means a lot for the continuous breeding and also a form of guarantee for future puppy purchasers. We sell our puppies to active homes and by active homes we mean and want the buyer to have interest in working with the dog. You’re not obliged to compete but of course it’s a plus. The dogs we breed on have a natural inheriting for blood-tracking and hunting and we therefore prefer to sell to people with an interest in this. Our puppies are raised on the dog food “Royal Canin” and we are very satisfied with “Labrador 30”, a dog food especially for Labradors. Every year we have an internal competition among the Sångfågel dogs, and it’s called “Goblet of the year”. If you want to look at the score, click here. We also have a special weekend every year for our pedigree, with good instructors and excellent foodJ. The main goal is to educate our puppy buyers in all the skills you can use the Labrador in. You can look at pictures from the 2005 weekend if you’d like, click here. Don’t forget to leave a paw print in our guest book… I hope you’ll enjoy the visit at our site! Olivia
